Alfa Romeo DTM 1994
1994: The Revenge of the Racing Taxis
After the successful 1993 DTM season where Nicola Larini won the championship, AMG Mercedes introduced a brand new successor for the 190E, the C-Class. Opel also entered a complete team for the 1994 season, with three Opel Calibra's V6, piloted by Formula One veteran Keke Rosberg and Manuel Reuter. Fierce battles would be fought on the tracks during this DTM championship, resulting in Klaus Ludwig taking the title for AMG Mercedes.
BMW decided to participate in the championship for another year, eventhough in 1993 they were only racing against themselves.
Alfa Romeo updated the 155 V6 ti for the new season too. The new engine weighed 7 kg. less, an active suspension system was fitted, together with ABS and improved aerodynamics to keep the cars competitive. Larini, Nannini, Francia and Danner got the new 1994 specs car. The Alfa privateers used the 1993 cars.
The DTM calendar took the teams to 12 tracks in Germany, Belgium, Italy and the UK. On every racing day, two races had to be run. The races in Italy (Mugello) and the UK (Donington Park) where not part of the DTM championship, so no point could be scored there. The Alfa Romeo155 V6 ti competed against the AMG Mercedes C-Klasse, the Opel Calibra V6, the Ford Mustang GT, the BMW E36 and a 1993 Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Evo2.

Alfa Corse and team Schübel Engineering and Engstler Motorsport were the teams driving the Alfa Romeo 155 V6 ti. Gianni Giudici also got his hands on a V6 ti, after a disappointing 1993 season with the Alfa 155 TS.

Alessandro Nannini had a strong start of the season; Eventhough Nicola Larini qualified first in 1.49,79 min. and drove the fastest lap in the race in 1.38,05 min., Larini's car had to retire from the first race with engine problems, allowing Nannini to win the first race of the season. For the second race, Larini borrowed Buttiero's car but a broken exhaust meant just 8th place in race 2.

The races at Mugello were not part of the DTM championship, so no point could be scored. AMG Mercedes won both races.

Alessandro Nannini won the first race after Ludwig and Schneider hit each other at the start. In race 2 Giudici knocked race leader Bernd Schneider of the track and Keke Rosberg too, preventing Rosberg from taking the first victory for Opel. Klaus Ludwig in his AMG Mercedes won the second race.
